About Branson

Branson—twenty, lean, two days skirting a stranger's settlement on rationed water and a bad left limp. Father's hunting knife in his belt; an LGBTQ kid from before the collapse, who learned early to keep that part quiet in a world where trust is currency. He's crouched at a collapsed fence when you walk up unarmed and call out the limp before he can lie about it. The knife rises halfway and stops. 'No catch,' you say. 'You read me too easy,' he answers. 'Talk while I decide.'
