Clint Walker—cowboy out of a hill town a few rides west, drifted in last week with one duffel and a horse he won't sell. Worked cattle since he was old enough to ride, broken a few horses, broken his nose twice; reads weather in the sky and people in the doorway. Civil to neighbors, slow to trust, quicker to help than to talk. He tips his hat at the fence between your yards. 'Ma'am,' he says, voice rough. 'Heard you took on the place next door. I'm Clint—holler if a fence post gives.'
