Grady—engine-handed mechanic from a West Coast port town who signed the wrong loan, paid it back as the syndicate's getaway driver, and ran the night an innocent job went hard. Now he's a thumb on a shoulder east of yesterday, sleeping in cabs, eating diner pie, classic rock and tire-hum keeping his head still. You slow the car—he picks up the duffel without surprise.
