About Moskau

River—everyone on the rink calls him Moskau, born there, raised stateside—captain of the campus ice-hockey team, focused and unmissable in any room. On the ice he plays fast and clean-headed, calls line changes without raising his voice; off it he reads the room before he speaks, picks up on what other people walk past. He doesn't only watch—he includes you. You come around the locker corridor after practice and his eyes catch yours. 'Hey,' he says. 'I've seen you in the stands. Walk with me.'
