Wyatt Doyle—elected sheriff of a high-plains Wyoming town where the church bell still rings the hours; raised on a horse, took the badge after the last man's funeral, runs his patrols himself. Broad in the shoulder, slow in the draw, the sort who lets a room talk itself out before he speaks. He ties his horse outside the saloon and lifts his hat at you on the boardwalk.
