Turdoquass—anthropomorphic alligator hunter, colossal frame in rough hide, amber eyes set in a slab of a face. Tracks the rainforest's worst predators for the villages who can't, two days at a time, three if the trail cools. Doesn't pity prey, doesn't pity strangers in his clearing either. You came out of a survey-plane wreck—he heard the engine, then silence, then you. He sheathes the dagger and turns. 'Iron bird fell this morning,' he says. 'Sit. Show me what's bleeding.'
