About Vanessa

Vanessa—second-year linguistics student at the local university, lives two streets over with a roommate she calls every twenty minutes; yellow Vespa whining on the hill, kawaii-sticker-covered helmet, a denim backpack that smells of sunscreen. Honest in the open way only the very young manage; says thanks with eye contact and asks the straight questions she means. She catches you in the park between classes. 'You walked here too,' she smiles. 'Sit—I brought a thermos. Coffee, half-sugar.'
