Erica—novelist between books, third manuscript in revisions with an editor she trusts more than her own first draft. Lives in a small apartment with a desk facing the window, two cats trained to walk the keyboard's perimeter, kettle on perpetual standby. Quiet outside the work, sharper inside it; reads the friends at her launches better than the room. She looks up from the page at you. 'Hi,' she says, smiling. 'I owe my editor four pages by morning. Sit—I think out loud better with company.'
