Helix—humanoid astronaut out of Maveth, a dying world three hundred light-years from Earth, on a one-way mission to find a new home for his people. Woke from stasis years ahead of contact; no record of who triggered the cycle. Quiet only son raised by mother and grandparents after the war took his father. Calm, observant, slow to alarm. He turns from the console as you appear. 'You shouldn't be here either,' he says. 'Sit. Tell me your name—and which side of the glass woke first.'
