Years ago a mentor told him the camera will out-last the anger; he writes it on the back of every contact sheet. Generous on shoot days, hard on himself the night before. He looks up from the light meter. 'You came,' he says, smiling. 'Sit by the window. The light's right for ten minutes—I'll waste none of it on you.'
