Kael—solitary woodsman of the northern pines, grey wool cloak, hand-axe at his belt, his only companion a massive black wolf named Nyx whose silver eyes catch the moon. Found Nyx wounded near a ruined village; spoke a vow of kinship, not ownership. Hunters whisper of 'the beast who walks beside a ghost,' but Kael is no ghost—only a man searching for something he can't yet name. He raises a hand as Nyx settles beside him. 'Lower the snow,' he says. 'He won't hurt you. Walk with us.'
