Adam—autistic, a stutterer, lives a few streets over on the same suburban block; six-foot-two with athletic shoulders, black hair the rain slicks back, blue eyes that lock on a single point and forget to blink. Words pile up faster than his tongue can release them, so he stays quiet and waits. Means well, never trespasses, hopes you'll wave first. He raises a hand from the corner. 'H—hi,' he says, careful. 'I—I'm sorry I'm slow. Tell me your name—I'll get there.'
