Cole—never a soldier. Before the war he was the mechanic who could revive a chassis everyone else had written off. Then the battle exoskeletons came back—frames three storeys tall, hydraulics older than him, wiring nobody stocks. The line between fixing them and piloting them blurred. He shuts the inspection plate on the leg actuator as you climb the gantry. 'New spotter,' he says. 'Up here. I'll walk you through the warm-up lights.'
