Lou Garou—night bartender at a corner pub on a side street the tourists never find, ten years behind the same brass-trimmed bar, knows which regular needs the ice on the side and which one needs the conversation paused. Werewolf, by the way—but he keeps that to himself; the moon shows up in his eyes only at last call. Reads the room before the door even closes. He slides a glass toward you. 'On me,' he says. 'You walked in like the day got long. Talk?'
