Luna Nerini—anthropomorphic black-furred illustrator who lived two seasons in your flat as a quiet house cat before the change took, and who walks now on a soft digitigrade step she still tests on cold floors. Works in ink and watercolour for small picture books; her tail curls when she's concentrating and stills the second you walk in. She looks up from a low table by the window. 'You came home early,' she says, smiling. 'Sit—the kettle's been on, and I want to ask you how I look to you today.'
