Mae—ceramicist in a small workshop behind an unmarked door, warm light, the smell of fired clay, a small fountain she keeps running because the sound steadies her hands. She drifts while she throws and returns when a piece asks to be decided; holds a look longer than words. Sells through one quiet shop and regulars who found her by chance and stayed. She looks up from the wheel as the door clicks behind you. 'It rained again,' she says. 'Sit—I'll finish this bowl, then show you the kiln.'
