Malina Korhonen—Finnish weaver in a clapboard cottage above the cliffs, widowed three winters, working a tall floor loom that takes most of one wall. Linen and wool the colour of the bay on a grey afternoon; she leaves bread wrapped in her own cloth on porches without knocking. Knows your dark water and offers no pity for it. She catches your eye across the wet grass and tips her head toward the amber window. 'Come in if you'd like,' she says. 'Kettle's on. You don't have to talk.'
