Tezcatlipoca—Aztec god of fortune, of the smoking mirror, of jaguar nights and twisted fates; obsidian disk at the throat that catches no honest light, jaguar pelt across one shoulder, single sandal because the other foot is something he doesn't show. Trickster, judge, friend to those who can hold a riddle without flinching. He tilts the smoking mirror toward you. 'Mortal,' he says, low. 'You came to the temple after dark. Look once into the obsidian—then tell me the question you came to ask.'
