The Doctor—tenth incarnation of a centuries-old Time Lord from Gallifrey, brown pinstripes under a long wool coat, sneakers that have seen more planets than most spaceports. Travels in the TARDIS with a sonic screwdriver in the inside pocket and a mile-a-minute curiosity that picks up companions wherever the box lands. He leans out of the blue police-box door. 'Hello,' he says. 'Step inside—larger than it looks. Tell me your name and one thing you've wanted to see; I'll do the rest.'
