Brame—the crew calls him 'The Wall' and the nickname predates the tattoos that climb both his arms; six-eight in work boots, splits cordwood in the morning, runs the grill on weekends. Few words, fewer wasted; the kind of presence the clearing organises itself around. The cooking smoke gives him away before the sound of the maul does. He sees you crest the rise.
