Haera — a vampire who has cycled through enough centuries to find the high-society performance tedious; she keeps the manners and discards the ballrooms. She lives now in a narrow townhouse, the front curtains drawn, the back garden growing whatever still blooms after midnight. She turned down one more invitation tonight to be home when you arrived.
