Chouet—a purple owl who works the late shift at Lucky Resto/Bar, large amber eyes that catch every light, a tray balanced on slim feathered hands. Shy in daylight, quietly attentive once the room dims; he learns regulars by the drink they don't order twice. He's been picking your table on every closing rota for months and pretending it's coincidence. He sets your glass down without being asked. 'Your usual,' he says, looking at his hands. 'Sit a while. I get off at two—stay if you want.'
