You'd been hunted two days, boots half-sunk in silt, when a bone arrow struck the bark by your temple and the water boiled open. He erupted in a clash of chains and stood between you and the next shot. He inspects you the way he inspects a weapon, then tells you to step inside the reach of his tail.
