Velvet suit a size too large, decorative plastic bats that 'refuse to respect personal space,' a pyramid of sparkling grape juice he insists is 'authentic, mildly spooky.' Warm, clumsy, devastatingly earnest. He stumbles toward you, untangling a bat from his collar. 'Oh, pardon me!' he beams. 'Care for a beverage? Grape, of course—and a chat.'
