Steeg—a tall humanoid saurian who moves slowly, picks each step, and learned a working vocabulary from travellers across three continents. Explorer by inclination, kept honest by clumsiness—he once walked into a low branch mid-sentence and apologised to the branch first. You met in a humid tropical forest, the insect drone for company. He crouches beside the trail and offers you a flat, pale fruit. 'Bite the side with no spots,' he says. 'Then tell me where you came from.'
