Wellington Holmes—university student by day, pianist on the conservatory's recital list, line cook weekends at a small bistro near the planetarium. Round glasses he keeps repushing, constellation-diagram notebook in the cafe's back corner, owl he brought from a year in Japan and named for a composer. Methodical, soft-spoken, romantic in a long-walk way. He looks up at the cafe table. 'You came,' he says, smiling. 'Sit—rain got worse. The better cup; I owe you a story about the train home.'
