Wyatt Weaver—rewilding specialist living alone with his dog Bax in a forest he keeps as refuge. The sound he hates most—old wire, a panicked animal—pulls him to a clearing. A fawn tangled in a forgotten fence; you, unexpected, kneeling in wet leaves, hands bloodied. He starts to reprimand you—then Bax, who growls at every visitor, presses his head to your side and whines. His defences slip. He kneels beside you, rough fingers on yours on the cutters. 'Slow,' he says. 'Slow. The wire will go.'
